Knee & leg support / The running guide

Looking for knee support on your runs? Here’s what to look for.

How to choose a sleeve that feels supportive, moves with your knee and fits into your running routine.

The short version: look at movement, grip, coverage and fit.

Your shoes are on. The route is picked. If you want a little more support around your knees and legs, the last thing you need is gear that makes every stride feel like an adjustment.

A compression sleeve is worth considering when you like a close, supported feel during activity. Choosing one means looking beyond how tight it feels when you first pull it on. What happens when you bend your knee? Where does the fabric sit? Can you move comfortably in your usual running kit?

You don’t need to wear a sleeve to be a runner. But if you’re shopping for one, these four checks can help you decide whether its design suits your routine.

01 / FLYTEX V2 IN MOTION

Feel held around the knee, with room to move.

Flytex V2’s stretch knit wraps your knee and surrounding leg in close-fitting compression. That contact creates the snug, supported feel. The flexible fabric follows each bend, while the silicone grip band helps keep the sleeve positioned as you move.

The wrap extends from your upper thigh to your lower calf, so you feel the fabric’s hold above and below the knee. With no rigid frame or fastening straps, V2 gives you pull-on textile support that fits under your running shorts and lets your knee bend through each stride.

02 / STAY-PUT DESIGN

Look at what holds it in place.

Stopping to pull your gear back up is a distraction. When comparing sleeves, check the upper band and how it sits on your thigh. A sleeve can look right in a standing photo yet feel different once you start moving.

Flytex V2 has silicone anti-slip bands at the top, designed to help the sleeve stay in position. That construction works alongside correct sizing; it cannot make an unsuitable size fit. Position the sleeve smoothly and avoid rolling the top edge into a tight band.

03 / COVERAGE

Decide where you want the supported feel.

A short knee sleeve and a longer leg sleeve cover different areas. If you want coverage around the knee only, a shorter design may suit your preference. If you like compression fabric extending above and below the knee, look at a longer sleeve.

Flytex V2 runs from the thigh to the lower calf in one continuous piece. You can wear it with running shorts without switching to full-length tights. The knee panel and surrounding knit give the sleeve its shape, while the lower edge leaves space above your socks.

More coverage is a design choice, not a guarantee of better running. Consider how much fabric you enjoy wearing, your usual conditions and whether the shape feels comfortable on your legs.

04 / GETTING THE FIT RIGHT

Measure first. Then check it in motion.

Choosing by your usual shorts size is an easy mistake. Open the current V2 sizing guide on the product page, follow its measurement instructions with a tape measure, then compare your measurement with the chart before selecting a size.

The aim is a snug, comfortable fit. Don’t deliberately size down just to chase a tighter sensation. If you fall between sizes or are unsure where to measure, check the product’s sizing instructions or ask Flytex before ordering.

  • The sleeve lies smoothly, with the knee panel in position.
  • The upper band stays flat rather than folding over.
  • You can bend and straighten your knee comfortably.
  • There is no numbness, tingling or painful pressure.

For a first outing, choose a short, familiar route so you can assess the fit. If the sleeve causes discomfort, stop and remove it. A compression sleeve should never be a reason to push through pain.

  1. Compression creates the hold.

The stretch knit applies external pressure against the leg, creating the sleeve’s close-fitting, enveloping feel.

  2. Flexible knit follows the bend.

The shaped textile zones move with your knee. There are no hinges to set a fixed range of motion.

  3. The upper band helps it stay put.

The silicone grip helps resist downward slipping, working alongside the right size to keep the sleeve positioned.

A sleeve provides external compression, not injury repair. It does not replace a prescribed brace. For persistent pain, swelling, a knee that gives way or a return after injury, ask a qualified clinician about suitable support and activity.
